Frequently asked questions

GOT QUESTIONS? WE’VE GOT ANSWERS.

  • Our in-person sessions are conducted in our Plano, TX, office, which is conveniently located off the Dallas North Tollway and George Bush Turnpike in the Willow Bend area of Plano Parkway & Preston Parkway. Our services are by appointment only, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM CST.

  • Online therapy is awesome and very similar to in-person therapy, except you don’t have to drive to the office and can come from the comfort of your own home, perhaps in your cozy clothes and snuggling with a furry friend on your couch!. All telehealth appointments are done through our secure and confidential client portal, Simple Practice; all sessions are HIPAA compliant. Confidentiality, privacy, and safety are of the utmost importance, and you want to ensure you have a space available to you where you can mimic the setting of the in-person office, while at home. Additionally, telehealth appointments are never done when a client is in a moving vehicle, for safety and privacy purposes..

  • Fees are dependent upon your chosen clinician as well as length and type of appointment. North Texas Family Therapy, PLLC, offers reduced rate services starting at $30.00 per 60-minute session. Each clinician has a varied rate based on education and experience, please check out their individual bio pages to determine who may be the best fit for you or look at our Investment page to learn more.

  • North Texas Family Therapy, PLLC, is a fee for service practice and does not accept insurance. In order for insurance to be billed, a diagnosis is required, and your insurance company dictates the number of sessions that are medically relevant. Sometimes there isn’t an appropriate diagnosis for the reasons people are seeking therapeutic services and treatment should not be dictated by insurance companies.

We are considered an out-of-network provider and Superbills are provided upon request to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement or potential application to your deductible. Acceptance and reimbursement is at the sole discretion of your insurance provider and no guarantees are made by North Texas Family Therapy, PLLC, regarding reimbursement or application to deductible. Please check with your policy to determine your OON mental health benefits.

  • You may feel a tad nervous but also hopeful - whatever you are experiencing is likely normal. You will enter into our office, check in on our tablet to let your clinician know you have arrived and then grab a seat in our lobby or one of our seating areas. Please be sure to help yourself to a snack and a beverage while you wait and enjoy the calming environment. Your clinician will come get you, right on time, and you will go to your sessions. Your therapist will review all of the paperwork you have submitted, be sure you don’t have any questions related to our practice policies, informed consent, or anything related to scheduling, billing, or cancellation. Then, the rest of the session is spent getting to know what’s bringing you to therapy, your goals, and what is going on in the day-to-day that nudged you to book an appointment. Your therapist will spend time getting to know you, likely asking about things such as hobbies, interests, favorite music or food, or about the people, or pets, in your life that you love. The first session is all about getting to know one another and creating the first strands of building that trust bond so you can dive into the heart-centered work of tending to yourself. At the end of the session your therapist will check in with how you’re feeling and get you on the schedule for the following week, and just like that… you’ve started the journey to creating a life that feels authentic to you.

  • We like to make things as easy as possible so therapy isn’t just another thing on your weekly to-do list. To set up your free 15–minute phone consultation with your preferred clinician in our secure client portal, head here.

Once you book your consultation, you will receive a screening form and a welcome email from your therapist, it’s that simple! • It’s tough to generalize how long anyone would need to be in therapy without meeting and assessing their situation, history, and treatment goals. We work with an assortment of individuals, couples, and families throughout the lifespan and each client has a unique set of circumstances and best hopes for their therapeutic process. The length of time the individual journeys will take depend on a variety of factors including availability, personal development goals, and commitment to care and are best determined with your clinician.

  • North Texas Family Therapy, PLLC, is not a crisis counseling center. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency go to your nearest emergency room or call 911.

If you have clinically relevant information you would like to share with your therapist, please send them an email and they will do their best to respond within 72 hours. If you need to reschedule and your therapist has provided their phone number, you may text them, but they may not respond until the start of business hours the following day. We work to create a good work-life balance and promote boundaries, not only for ourselves, but for our clients as well.

  • Appointments canceled with a 48-hour notice incur no fees and every effort will be made to reschedule in a timely manner. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, please contact your designated therapist at least 48 hours in advance. Appointments missed or canceled with less than 48-hour notice will be charged the equivalent of the missed session fee.

We understand emergencies and health problems do arise and are willing to consider them when adequate notice is given. No shows and last minute scheduling conflicts with other professionals, sports events, family events, and educational events generally will not be considered. If you have missed two appointments due to late cancellation and/or no call/no show, in the calendar year, you will be charged for future late cancellations regardless of sickness or emergency.

Please note your provider may terminate the therapeutic relationship after three missed appointments without calling to cancel 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. Any balance on the account for missed appointments must be paid prior to rescheduling an appointment.

  • Therapy is confidential to the extent of the law and our limits of confidentiality. As mandated reporters, we are required to report suspicions of abuse or neglect of minors and elders to The Texas Department of State Health Services. If you are coming in for couples counseling, we uphold a “No Secrets Policy” and do not keep secrets between one partner and the clinician. If minor clients are coming in for services, we do not disclose any information that is not a threat to their health, wellbeing, or safety without their explicit consent to discuss with their parents or caregivers. We do not discuss any details of our work with friends, family, or coworkers and you will never have to worry about your information remaining private.

  • This Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created.

The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute (appeal) the bill.

If you are billed for more than this Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may contact the health care provider or facility listed to let them know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill.

There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on this Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.
